My 50th Birthday is here; let the fun begin!

I have no more to add. I’m very excited about this day, and am looking forward to spending it with my hubby! Lunch at one of my top five favorite restaurants, a beautiful card, and Trader Joe’s to get last minutes snacks to take on my trip!

Enjoy this first day of Spring! And, thanks for all the birthday love! I love you, too!

My birthday wish list

10 days to 50: I thought of a million things to do for this birthday. I thought I would have a carnival, have a tea party, have a bowling party, have a dinner party – have a party! Then I thought I’d do a series of things, like: paint and sip party one night, bowling another, and skating the next. Sprinkling in a few dinners out with friends!

Then I settled for the ultimate – a trip out of the country! Ryan was trying to make Spain happen, but it was tough one. Finally, my childcare trip with my church came up. So, what else is possibly on my birthday wish list. Well, I’ll tell you, and it is something I’ve been wanting to do for others for years. Charitable contributions for my birthday!

Yes, GIVING! What a perfect way to celebrate me! Many many years ago, my friend Thea and I did this. We planted trees in each other’s names, and gave donations to organizations. It was great!

So, this year I have come up with a list of places that I would love for you to donate what you would have spent on me to them:

Central Union Mission: Central Union Mission is a faith-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization with seven locations throughout the Washington metropolitan area. In addition to its family ministries, the Mission operates an emergency shelter program, a rehabilitation program for men with life-controlling issues, a food, clothing and furniture distribution center, a retreat and recreation center with a camp for underprivileged children, programs for isolated seniors, computer and job training and transitional and low-cost housing.

Ryan Odelle Mance Memorial Scholarship Foundation: To help increase access to higher education for deserving, talented and qualified high school graduating African American male students in dedication and deed.

Capitol Hill Pregnancy Center: Capitol Hill Pregnancy Center is a Faith based 501(c)3 non-profit organization offering help and support to women, men and their families who are in a crisis pregnancy. Our goal is to provide compassionate care as well as complete, accurate information pertaining to pregnancy and pregnancy options.

Tomorrow 9 days to 50: healthwise, I’m okay.

11 days to 50: I’m looking forward to some R & R this weekend. A little unwinding, a little planning, and a lot of unplugging. I plan to step away from my cell phone, turn off my computer, and start to celebrate my birthday.

During this down time, I’m expecting to have a pedicure, a massage, and a few meals out! I’m evening thinking about going to a movie!

So, if you don’t hear me, don’t worry – I’m just exercising my right to disconnect! I will be 50 after all, and a grown woman needs her down time!

Tomorrow, 10 days to 50 – what I want for my birthday.

12 days to 50: I’m getting so excited about seeing my friends, spending time with babies, and prayerfully taking good care of them so their parents can rest comfortably!

Yes! I’m talking about my trip to Central Asia! Because of the generosity of so many of you, this trip became a reality for me, and now packing day is just a week away, and take off just a few days after that!

Here’s what I know: I’ll be working with the little guys 9mos to 4-years old. My childcare partner is a delight, and full of ideas – I’m just following her lead! Our little room will be decorated in bright spring colors. We’ll have songs, story-time, naps, snacks, and more crafts than enough.

There are 14 of us going to help with 25 children. The team is awesome! I’m looking forward to getting to know the ladies a lot better; as we’ll be bunk mates!

Tomorrow – 11 days to 50: Unplugging for the weekend

Countdown correction: 15, 14, and/or 13 days to 50! I got so excited about reaching March 20th, and turning 50, that I counted wrong from the beginning! But we are on track now!

13 days to 50: Everyone believes in something. I believe in faith. Faith as mentioned in the bible in Hebrews 11:1 “Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen.”

What’s my hope? My hope is in Jesus the Christ, and that he’ll return to take his people home to heaven to live with him eternally. John 14:2-3 says, “ In my Father’s house are many rooms. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, that where I am you may be also.”

What do I believe? That Jesus is God, (John 10:30, “I and the Father are ONE.”) That Jesus sacrificed his life on the cross to atone for EVERYONE’s sins (1John 2:2, “He is the propitiation for our sins, and not for ours only but also for the sins of the whole world.) Therefore he is the saviour of my sinful soul! And, I am his forever!

I love me some him <3

15 days to 50: I often hear my mother, “Thank you, Ryan, for sticking in with my baby.” Then my sisters will chime in with, “Ryan, how do you do it?” And, my friend Angela with her, “Poor Ryan!”

But I say,”In God’s kindness, He sent me a husband!” But not just any hubby. I have a kind, considerate, smart one, who LOVES the Lord, and loves me! And, knows that I was destiny to be a kept woman!

I love you, babe! I’m turning 50!

Tomorrow, 14 days to 50: where would I be without my faith.

16 days to 50: Debt is a bad mother … Shut your mouth! Yet, it doesn’t just happen. You know what I mean, you don’t just wake up one day; then, look I’m in debt. However,  you can wake up, and on purpose avoid it! I didn’t/haven’t.

I’ve struggled with financial issues for as long as I’ve worked; and that’s been a long time. But no matter how hard I’ve tried to pay off debt, and NOT incur it again. I am in a vicious cycle of debt in, debt out, REPEAT! This year things are changing. I’m 50. It’s time for me to be fiscally responsible; so, this year I’m discarding the notion of getting out of debt. It doesn’t work for me. Instead, I’m going to be fiscally responsible.

What does that look like? Well first let me say, it feels good to not stress anymore about adding one more Amazon purchase to my credit card. It looks like me living with a budget. (Quiet as it’s kept, I love budgets.) It looks like me being honest that I spend money. It looks like me taking responsibility for the debt I’m in, and making a plan to not add to it.

Beating up on myself because my credit card is more than I can pay off at the end of the month is no longer working for me. However, realizing how much more I can do if my credit cards had NO balance is pretty exciting. While I work to getting there, I’ll spend less time worrying that my debt bill isn’t zero, and spend more time eliminating the debt one bite at a time.

Tomorrow, 15 days to 50, the man that loves me!
