TGCW14 Day 3

Wow whee! I have no idea if I started Day 2’s post this way, but seriously WOW! I’m just finishing today’s activities, and my head is FULL! Full of words, images, ideas, thoughts, and truths from the Word of God! It’s going to take me a few days to sort through all that I learned today.

Here are the highlights:

Session 3: Nehemiah 5-6 Fearing God in a Fallen World (Paige Brown). My take away, the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, and at the end of the day fear the Lord and obey Him!

Session 4: Nehemiah 7-8 Coming Together Around God’s Word (Nancy Gutherie). My take away, the joy of the Lord is my strength! Also, every list of names in the bible is important; and when the final judgement come, we’ll wait with great anticipation to hear our name called.

There were three breakout classes! I took a class on how to study a whole book of the bible. Next I took, WWJD & WDJD, Indicative & Imperative. And, my final class was one-on-one bible study!

Session 5: Nehemial 9-10 Responding to God According to His Word (John Piper). My take away, Bible stories exist so we can enjoy God!

Then we were treated to a concert by the Gettys! ๐Ÿ™‚

Now, I must fall to sleep to start all over again tomorrow.

Tomorrow, I have two treats: 1) a massage and facial, and 2) dinner and movie with Laura and Jeff! ๐Ÿ™‚

TGCW14 Day 2

I started my morning with a lovely swim in the adult pool. I then laid out in the sun enjoying the warmth! Finally I ate a delicious omlette, and showered for the start of the 2014 TGC Women’s Conference (the reason I’m here). At 12noon, I was planted in a chair, and participated in everything I could. We had three Pre-Conference sessions: 1)Why This Issue Now? 2) Hearing From Women Leaders, and 3) Fellow Heirs of the Grace of God. Then the conference started!

First we heard from Kathleen Nielson, Director of Women’s Initiatives for TGC; followed by opening comments from D.A. Carson, Co-Founder and President of TGC. Then the good stuff started, Kathy Keller did Nehemiah 1-2, a break for dinner, music by the talented Getty’s, followed by Tim Keller doing Nehemiah 3-4, and finally I enjoyed a focus group session with Elyse and Jessica.

Whew, that was enough! Here are my highlights from today (only two because I’m bushed):

1) In the pre-conference first session, Kathy Keller made a comment that couldn’t be given in a sound bite. The panel was discussing gender issues as related to complementarian views. While complementarians are spousal relationships, the question was ask what about singles. The panel discussed that singles have less distractions (in relations to devoting time/thought/energy to God). Then Kathy Keller said, and I paraphrase her, that singles have the opportunity to truly glorify God, and be shining examples to the rest of us. However, gay Christian singles practicing abstinence, will be the leaders in this area.

I realized at that moment that I had fallen in love with Kathy Keller. She was candid, putting the things out there that we all wanted to say. Thanks, Kathy!

2) I’ve read Nehemial before, but tonight the reading of it helped me to see the picture of Christ in the person Nehemiah. Nehemial left the comfort of the palace to do a dangerous work. Jesus left the peace and comfort of heaven to not only put himself at risk, but to die. If Jesus hadn’t left heaven, and died on the cross, there would be no redemption for our sins.

Oh there was so much more, but I’m tuckered out! I have an early start tomorrow. So nite nite until tomorrow.

Nya, The Getty’s did your favorite version of ย In Christ Alone! Had I known they were going to sing it tonight, I would have recorded it for you. ๐Ÿ™‚

TGCW14 Day 1

I’m in Orlando, Florida for The ย Gospel Coalition Women’s Conference 2014. I’m here with my mom and aunt, and arriving tomorrow will be my sister, Doreen, and another aunt. We are having a family reunion here! ๐Ÿ™‚

Today was just as it should be for a pre-preconference day. We took a walk to the nearby Walgreen’s for forgotten supplies, then I hurried to the room to change for the pool! I was only in there for 20minutes, if that long, it was the best ย -lightening and thunder shut down the pool. Showered, dressed, and conference early registration, followed by dinner!

I’m so excited. The conference theme this year is “God’s Word Our Story Hearing from Nehemiah”. Nehemiah is one of my favorite books of the bible. I love his focus to make sure that the work that God equipped him to do, he gets it done.

So, perhaps you’re wondering what I’m going to be doing this weekend? First, I’ll be sitting under GREAT teaching by D.A. Carson, John Piper, Tim Keller, and the list goes on. Here are the breakout sessions I’ll be : Studying a whole book of the bible, WWJD in light of WDJD, and One on one bible study.

My 12yo niece inspired me to journal my experience; so, I intend to write every night about my day! Except this is hard as I’m tuckered!
